Can I get into the forestry program with the Peace Corps after completing the program at Job Corps?

I have also have a lot of experience with the forest service and conservation corps. Please don’t crush my dreams.

How much experience do you have? Peace Corps wants skilled volunteers. Usually this means a four-year degree, but it can also mean 10+ years experience.

Talk to a recruiter for details, but never fear. It’s not like Peace Corps is something that you have to do when you’re X years old. The program is 50 years old and it will be around after you gain more experience.

Forestry

Forestry

Forestry is the art and science of managing forests, tree plantations, and related natural resources. The main goal of forestry is to create and implement systems that allow forests to continue a sustainable continuation of environmental supplies and services. The challenge of forestry is to create systems that are socially accepted while sustaining the resource and any other other resourses that might be affected. Silviculture, a related science, involves the growing and tending of trees and forests. Modern forestry generally concerns itself with: assisting forests to provide timber as raw material for wood products; wildlife habitat; natural water quality management; recreation; landscape and community protection; employment; aesthetically appealing landscapes; biodiversity management; watershed management; erosion control; and a sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide. A practitioner of forestry is known as a forester. Note that the word forestry can also refer to a forest itself. Forest ecosystems have come to be seen as the most important component of the biosphere, and forestry has emerged as a vital field of science, applied art, and technology. Plantation Forests and Ecosystem Services

Plantation Forests and Ecosystem Services

$98.77

Monocultures of conifers in the Eastern Himalayas have sparked off a controversy. Local people see environmental negatives whilst forest department has an economic motive. Consequently, a paradigm shift in plantations from monocultures to mixed species occurred. However, scarcity of the forest products and exploitation of forest resources continue. This book, therefore, shed light on a link between plantations and forest dependent communities in relation to the impacts of management practices in provisioning services. Both, conifers and broadleaved have capability of producing variety of nontimer services, which was influenced by age and species composition.Since, silviculture is the art and science of cultivation of trees which determines the growth, structure and quality of forests to meet the diverse needs of stakeholders; a proper silviculture system should integrate socioecological benefits into the plantation system. In the rural area like Darjeeling hills, multipurpose forestry should be the main aspire, where small wood and nontimber forest products can satisfy the needs of forest dwellers whilst timber production makes plantation economically viable. Peatland Forestry

Peatland Forestry

$364.83

The book provides a review and synthesis of boreal mire ecosystems including peat soil properties, mire hydrology, carbon and nutrient cycling, and classification of mire sites. The emphasis, however, is on peatland forests as a renewable natural resource. The approach originated in northern Europe, because there, especially in Finland, operational scale forest drainage has a long tradition based on research aiming to maintain and increase wood production on peatlands. Whenever relevant, a closer look is also given to other countries in Europe, Canada, and the USA. The results of recent studies on different environmental effects of peatland forestry are also discussed in detail. Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. One of Bhutans significant natural resources in the late twentieth century was its rich forests and natural vegetation. Bhutans location in the eastern Himalayas, with its subtropical plains and alpine terrain, gives it more rainfall than its neighbors to the west, a factor greatly facilitating forest growth. The forests contain numerous deciduous and evergreen species, ranging from tropical hardwoods to predominantly oak and pine forests. The small population and the general absence of overdevelopment in Bhutan contributed to forest preservation. Because of the terrain, the more accessible forests had been overcut whereas remote forests remained largely in their natural state. A progressive governmentsponsored forestry conservation policy strove to balance revenue needs with ecological considerations, water management, and soil preservation. Success in managing its forest resources had long been critical to the local environment and economy and also affected downstream floodplains in India and Bangladesh.
