Courses In Forestry

courses in forestry
how can i confront my landlord to reconsider selling 200 acres of forestry to be leveled into a golf course?

a few weeks ago my dad told me we were going to have to move in about a year. our landlord, though a great guy that he is, also has a bit of a greed streak in him that rules over his decisions about everything. I’ve known for a few months now that he has been bombarded with offers for his land and he now gave in for great sum of which I’ll never see in the whole of my life. i don’t argue because i have no platform to begin with, but i fear the fact that the trees will be leveled. we have wild dogs, coyotes, turkeys, deer, elk, and pumas on our property and it’s one of the few privately own properties in the Black Hills that has been well kept and has had a strict law for no smoking or hunting on the premises. even still we have national forestry behind the property and most every day I’ll hear gun shots and motorized vehicles echo through the trees. our 200 acres that we live on is a safe haven for wildlife, set safely away from the city. it shouldn’t be wasted on a golf course.

Try to find out if there is some sort of environmental and/or wildlife coalition in your community. Most of these organizations have volunteer lawyers (or access to lawyers who will work pro bono) that are willing to try and fight to preserve land.

Contact the EPA and even the Nature Conservancy too. USUALLY, an environmental impact study needs to be done on such projects to find out what impact a golf course will have on a community…potential water pollution etc. It’s a shame you can’t find out if there are endangered or threatened animal/fish speices on this property…that could help save the land from destruction.

Forestry

Forestry

$111.53

Forestry is the art and science of managing forests, tree plantations, and related natural resources. The main goal of forestry is to create and implement systems that allow forests to continue a sustainable continuation of environmental supplies and services. The challenge of forestry is to create systems that are socially accepted while sustaining the resource and any other other resourses that might be affected. Silviculture, a related science, involves the growing and tending of trees and forests. Modern forestry generally concerns itself with: assisting forests to provide timber as raw material for wood products; wildlife habitat; natural water quality management; recreation; landscape and community protection; employment; aesthetically appealing landscapes; biodiversity management; watershed management; erosion control; and a sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide. A practitioner of forestry is known as a forester. Note that the word forestry can also refer to a forest itself. Forest ecosystems have come to be seen as the most important component of the biosphere, and forestry has emerged as a vital field of science, applied art, and technology. Peatland Forestry

Peatland Forestry

$364.83

The book provides a review and synthesis of boreal mire ecosystems including peat soil properties, mire hydrology, carbon and nutrient cycling, and classification of mire sites. The emphasis, however, is on peatland forests as a renewable natural resource. The approach originated in northern Europe, because there, especially in Finland, operational scale forest drainage has a long tradition based on research aiming to maintain and increase wood production on peatlands. Whenever relevant, a closer look is also given to other countries in Europe, Canada, and the USA. The results of recent studies on different environmental effects of peatland forestry are also discussed in detail. Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. One of Bhutans significant natural resources in the late twentieth century was its rich forests and natural vegetation. Bhutans location in the eastern Himalayas, with its subtropical plains and alpine terrain, gives it more rainfall than its neighbors to the west, a factor greatly facilitating forest growth. The forests contain numerous deciduous and evergreen species, ranging from tropical hardwoods to predominantly oak and pine forests. The small population and the general absence of overdevelopment in Bhutan contributed to forest preservation. Because of the terrain, the more accessible forests had been overcut whereas remote forests remained largely in their natural state. A progressive governmentsponsored forestry conservation policy strove to balance revenue needs with ecological considerations, water management, and soil preservation. Success in managing its forest resources had long been critical to the local environment and economy and also affected downstream floodplains in India and Bangladesh.
