3. Use efficient appliances, replace light bulbs, insulate 4. Buy renewable energy, like wind and solar
5. Organize the neighborhood and town for energy efficiency
6. Use your vote and influence as a citizen to elect responsive leaders
7. Encourage efficient transportation in & between communities
8. Plant trees, expand open spaces
9. Reduce sprawl and the paving of the landscape
10. Build for efficiency and solar power
11. Support sustainable farming and forestry
12. Reduce global deforestation
13. Develop an efficient energy policy, moving away from fossil fuels
14. Export new energy technology that uses renewable energy sources
15. ….and Start doing these things today

This is a cycle that the earth has been through before. Human actions add to it but by a small percentage (not to say that we shouldn’t clean up our act anyway).
Did you also know that scientisits have just discovered that global warming is also happening on Mars?

Deforesting the Earth: From Prehistory to Global Crisis, An Abridgment $28.27 âAnyone who doubts the power of history to inform the present should read this closely argued and sweeping survey. This is rich, timely, and sobering historical fare written in a measured, non-sensationalist style by a master of his craft. One only hopes (almost certainly vainly) that todayâs policymakers take its lessons to heart.ââBrian Fagan, Los Angeles Times Published i… |

Economics of Carbon Sequestration in Forestry on $191.1 Since the 1992 Earth Summit, there have been increased efforts on an international scale to address global climate change. Reducing the increased levels of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, which are believed to be contributing to this climatic change, will require major effort on the part of the worlds governments. This means that the environmental, economic, social, and political consequences of climate change must be understood, and that strategies to mitigate climate change must also address these issues. The workshop detailed in this book concentrated on how economic principles and analysis could contribute to the planning of forestry projects aimed at affecting terrestrial carbon balances. More than 30 international scientists came together for one week near Stockholm, Sweden and divided into working groups charged with addressing a specific issue and preparing a paper within this time frame. This book contains the majority of papers presented at this meeting, and includes both the working group papers and the individually presented papers. Forestry $111.53 Forestry is the art and science of managing forests, tree plantations, and related natural resources. The main goal of forestry is to create and implement systems that allow forests to continue a sustainable continuation of environmental supplies and services. The challenge of forestry is to create systems that are socially accepted while sustaining the resource and any other other resourses that might be affected. Silviculture, a related science, involves the growing and tending of trees and forests. Modern forestry generally concerns itself with: assisting forests to provide timber as raw material for wood products; wildlife habitat; natural water quality management; recreation; landscape and community protection; employment; aesthetically appealing landscapes; biodiversity management; watershed management; erosion control; and a sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide. A practitioner of forestry is known as a forester. Note that the word forestry can also refer to a forest itself. Forest ecosystems have come to be seen as the most important component of the biosphere, and forestry has emerged as a vital field of science, applied art, and technology. Carbon Dioxide Mitigation in Forestry and Wood Industry $317.03 The book provides theoretical and practical guidelines to use and enhance the potential of forests to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel resources. To understand the interactions linked with such concepts, the book addresses the following topics: forest dynamics and carbon budget; deforestation and afforestation; emerging programs for sustainable development; timber as substitute for high energy materials and fossil fuels; forest responses to climate change and socioeconomic pressures; policy aspects. Apart from the production of timber, forests fulfill numerous additional ecological and social functions. This book has a strong interdisciplinary focus and integrates global aspects with regional and national studies. Peatland Forestry $364.83 The book provides a review and synthesis of boreal mire ecosystems including peat soil properties, mire hydrology, carbon and nutrient cycling, and classification of mire sites. The emphasis, however, is on peatland forests as a renewable natural resource. The approach originated in northern Europe, because there, especially in Finland, operational scale forest drainage has a long tradition based on research aiming to maintain and increase wood production on peatlands. Whenever relevant, a closer look is also given to other countries in Europe, Canada, and the USA. The results of recent studies on different environmental effects of peatland forestry are also discussed in detail. Forestry in Bhutan $78.07 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. One of Bhutans significant natural resources in the late twentieth century was its rich forests and natural vegetation. Bhutans location in the eastern Himalayas, with its subtropical plains and alpine terrain, gives it more rainfall than its neighbors to the west, a factor greatly facilitating forest growth. The forests contain numerous deciduous and evergreen species, ranging from tropical hardwoods to predominantly oak and pine forests. The small population and the general absence of overdevelopment in Bhutan contributed to forest preservation. Because of the terrain, the more accessible forests had been overcut whereas remote forests remained largely in their natural state. A progressive governmentsponsored forestry conservation policy strove to balance revenue needs with ecological considerations, water management, and soil preservation. Success in managing its forest resources had long been critical to the local environment and economy and also affected downstream floodplains in India and Bangladesh.
